This month’s training focused on excavations, and more specifically the hazards involved with digging through obstacles of an unknow site. Utilities and other underground obstacles can be scattered throughout a site and oftentimes they have been installed over a period of decades, and they are not well documented. Before we dig we try to identify everything through 811, Ground Penetrating Radar, and old As-Built drawings, so we can avoid inadvertently coming into contact with something we want to avoid.
